This place kinda sucks. We sat outside because it'd been a long morning of snowboarding (next to Angelfire). I don't eat meat and they refused to just serve me a side of fries or something. The waitress apologized, but they said the restaurant wouldn't let them serve anything other than burgers outside...(really?) So I go inside, but they won't let me order and take it outside. My buddy goes in and tries to order something for me to go, but they asked if it was for "the guy that asked if he could take it outside" and said yes. Well they said no. Also we asked for napkins and they point us to the bar. Yeah... why bother having table service? So yeah either sit inside or don't bother going here.

Went during Spring Break and got seated right away. Staff was friendly and service was good. Ordered the fried fish which was under-cooked. Waiter apologized and quickly offered to replace it. The green chile chicken stew was good. The fried green beans on the appetizer plate were also real good.

We visited the Sunset Grill for the first and last time today. We were there at lunch, and there were very few customers. My husband ordered the cod and I had the black bean veggie burger. The cod was so incredibly overcooked, I think you could probably shank someone with it. The veggie burger was cooked FAR too long. It was very dry, and it didn't help that they didn't have condiments. I had to choke it down, for real. My husband complained to the staff, but no offers to cook something else or mark down the price. On the upside, the waiter was very nice and we had a pleasant conversation. That's the ONLY reason I gave it two stars. It truly only deserved one.

This is good place to go on a regular basis. The atmosphere is varied depending if it is during a tourist high or low. I've probably been here 15 times at least for dining. The live entertainment is nice when they have it. The food is good and I've never had a bad experience. The sweet potato side dish is incredible and I absolutely love it! I grew up raising sweet potatoes and theirs are truly fantastic. On tap beer selection is small (I think 5) but they are usually pretty good. The wait staff are very nice.

Four of us ate lunch at the Sunset Grill while traveling between Taos Ski Valley and Cimarron during July 2008. It was our second time here, but we had remembered it as a Bavarian-themed restaurant from years ago. In any event, this time the food was not especially memorable. I had a burger and it was rather standard fare. I'd probably go back.

At lunch here during summer season. I think everything on every plate was frozen at one time. Had burgers, fries, and kids meals. Burger was bland and boring, fries were bland and boring. Soft drinks tasted flat. No need to return.

This is definitely the best option if you are skiing for the day. Much much better than the options at the lodge. It is a very short walk from the chile express lift.

Jo and I have been enjoying our summers in Angel Fire for the past 6 years. The Sunset Grill has been one of our favorite restaurants over the years, the last two years it went to No 1 without question. Lamont, Cindy and all her staff have treated us like family and friends, the food is outstanding. Try the adult mac and cheese if you want a real treat. Arko Pasta is right up there with any great meal I have ever had. I read some of the reviews which reminded me of a saying by an old boss of mine, "Some people would bitch if they were hung with a new rope"! Picky-Picky. Try it and enjoy! You will not be disappointed! If I could give it a 6 star rating I would.

The food is good, however the service is slow and the hostess is quite rude. 30 minute wait becomes an hour. Hostess refused to split our party of 5 into 2 and 3. Shouldn't have to beg to give them our business.

Ate here at lunch today, and sat outside as the weather was gorgeous. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. All four of us had different items, and they were all excellent. One of the best places we have eaten in Angel Fire!

The best slope side dining option at Angel Fire. Although that's not really saying much, and the four star is relative, you'd be remiss to eat at "the lodge" cafeteria thing at the base of the slopes. Strong margaritas once the staff finally gets around to bringing them, and the green chili and sweet fries are a must order.

We ate at this grill daily for lunch and it has been great. On our last day, the kids ordered chicken quesadillas and one of the kids found it was grossly undercooked. We told the waitress and even showed her the pink chicken but no apologies or even removing the item from the tab was offered . Unfortunately, one child ate all the chicken quesadilla before finding out about the undercooked meat. We have a 12 hour drive with a sick child vomiting . We will never eat at this grill again. Unless you 're a fan of vomiting . AVOID this place and just pack a sandwich while skiing.

I've been surprised at the quality of food in AF, especially in the past couple of years. Good to remember this is a tourist destination and that tourists tend to have a wide variety of expectations. Just saw another review of a cafe that a guy said was "in every way as good as Starbucks..." And so the Sunset Grill right next to the lifts on the mountain. If you're coming down after a day of skiing the big portions and greasy friedness hits the spot. Otherwise you'll leave feeling a bit heavier. Good service in general and a family friendly place, it seems. The green chile stew ain't bad, and the burgers have been pretty good. The rest I've had there is basically what you'd expect from a tourist place next to ski lifts with "grill" in its name. Except next to nothing is grilled-it's all battered, fried, and smothered. In short, if you're hungry and want a big meal to kill a hangover, this place is for you.

I have no idea why this place only has 2.5 stars. Sunset has great food and great service. Their menu items are diverse and well prepared. They have wonderful Arko pasta. Our kids love everything on the kids menu. They also are one of the very few restaurants in town that has a liquor license- so no wine based margaritas.

Eaten here a few times, food is decent, wait staff is abrasive and not very willing to accommodate larger parties.

It would be nice if you guys could post your hours. Showed up only to see that you were closed and no hours posted anywhere and also called your phone # and it just rings. If I'm a business and want customers I'm going to make sure of two things- that my hours are posted so potential customers will know when I'm open and that I have a professional sounding voicemail if I'm not open detailing my hours. We happened to be staying far from here and came to look at the hot air balloons which was a sad disappointment as well. We would have waited if we knew the hours and if you were going to be opening soon but I can actually say I have never been to a business that has never posted their hours.

Summer '14. Ate inside for lunch as it was a bit cool out side in the shade. The server was cheerful and knowledgeable. The beer list was awesome!! Lots of delicious local brews. The southwestern New Mexican inspired burgers were a huge hit with our group and they do any of these vege-style. We'd go back in a minute and repeatedly!

About 4 months ago, we came to eat at the Sunset Grill after driving from San Antonio Tx, and we were starving! We didn't have a wait, which was nice. We got several appetizers that were all very yummy! They had a very nice selection of beer, especially local beer. I had a margarita with dinner, and it was amazing! I believe I had the soup special for the night, and I remember it being very spicy! But I love spice, so it was perfect! Some of the guys got burgers, and they all enjoyed their meals! I had no complaints! Very yummy!

Would have given four stars except for one day at lunch a hostess insisted sticking us in too small seating. We had been eating here everyday when on the slopes and most stars for this place come from its convenience. I was there with three gentlemen and myself. All well over six foot and let's just say sticking us in a tiny booth wouldn't work. I ended up telling the overly insistent hostess we would take our money elsewhere if we would not be seated comfortably and just sat myself elsewhere. It was never busy and a week day. Huge turn off for me on customer comfort and appreciation. Food is average and drinks are average to good. Location is very good especially if you're skiing.

In Angel Fire there are not a whole lot of options for dining out. The Sunset Grill is to the left of the Chile Express and offers a nice fireside ambiance for a casual lunch or dinner. The food overall was good but not great. The service was friendly, but on the slow side. We started out with deep fried green beans. For the price, the portion size was on the small side. The breading on the beans was really tasty onion flavor that I really enjoyed. The chicken fried chicken is a most solid choice. Although the gravy needed salt, the chicken was freshly made and absolutely delicious. The salads were lacking and pretty pathetic looking. The burger I ordered was good but overcooked. The tomatoes were not appealing and the onion was so strong, I had to take it off my burger. The sweet potato fries were average. The blackened salmon was ordered by my friend, and I didn't hear any complaints, although I thought it looked a little generic. Overall, don't be expected to be blown away, but there are some good choices available. I'd say stay away from the salads and stick to the "comfort food" type choices on the menu.
